Resistance thermometer, also known as resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), is used for measuring temperature based on the principle of metal resistance changes with temperature. The main element/component of this temperature sensor is wire, which can be of copper, nickel or platinum; non inductively would on either ceramic or glass base material. Through accurate resistance/temperature relationship, material indicates the temperature. Being fragile, its elements are set up in protective probes. For industrial applications, this instrument is being used, instead of thermocouples, because of it is more stable, accurate and repeatable. This instrument is composed of components, like resistance element, outside diameter, SS 316 or inconel 600 tubing, process connection fittings, wire configuration (two, three or four) and cold end termination.
